Sweet CJ is looking for his forever home! This handsome young adult boy is full of life and love. All he needs is a home where the humans will be kind and loving to him and give him a chance to shine. He has been hit, and hurt, way too often by a man and is a little on guard about some men. Once he finds that he will be treated well, he quickly begins to relax.

CJ arrived at the Humboldt County Shelter as an owner turn in, where he was described as playing too rough with the kids in the household. Owner said that CJ inflicted a scratch on one of the kids, while both were playing; imagine that!, and for that reason, the dog had to go. Just as well, as it turned out this owner was abusive to CJ and had neither love for or respect for this nice boy.

After several days in the shelter, CJ passed his temp test and was put up for adoption. But, when he displayed fear of some men visitors (who no doubt reminded him of his abusive owner), he was deemed ‘unadoptable’ and required placement outside the shelter in order to save his life. Given his otherwise good nature, obvious desire to have human contact, and other good points, the dog rescue volunteers found placement for him with one of their dog rescue friends in Marin County.

Since his arrival there a couple weeks ago, he has shown himself to be an all-around great dog. He loves to play with other dogs, loves to play ball, is responsive and eager to please. CJ has no fear of women and with time, patience and gentleness, will be equally comfortable with any man who is nice to him. He wants so very much to trust everyone. In spite of his experiences so far in life, he is a happy, gentle, outgoing boy who is ready to trust and love. Here at the shelter he became good friends with one of the men volunteers very quickly.

CJ is ready to find a human who will be nice to him and will enjoy his friendly, playful, gentle nature and keep him forever! He would be a great dog for a single, couple or family with kids who can treat him with respect and are big enough to mingle with an exuberant young 65 pound pooch. He loves to go for walks and has great leash manners.
