Here’s Maya! Just under two years old, Maya is much more than a pretty face.

This gorgeous, almost-two-year-old girl—who is about 55 lbs. and appears to be a mix of Golden Retriever and Chow Chow—is a bright and enthusiastic learner, and incredibly sweet and loving. She is calm and not destructive in the home, and is an excellent car companion, often even falling asleep on the drive.

She likes to hunt gophers, and so may be a digger.

Maya got off to a rough start in life—two homes and two shelters in her first 18 months—and she is ready for a real commitment this time around.

Maya had a very good cat friend in her former home, but she needs a home with no other dogs. As an only dog, Maya will be a joy to live with. Her reactivity toward other dogs while out on walks is something that can be worked on in training lessons.

She needs a family who is devoted to providing a safe environment and the positive training she needs to blossom into her full potential. She would do well in a home with a large, secure yard and a family who can spend lots of time with her.

In her current foster home, Maya is loving toward both people in the home (male and female). She has to spend a lot of time alone, though, because of other dogs in the home, which is why a longer-term foster family could help if her forever home does not surface right away.

At present, Maya is reactive toward other dogs and some people in uniforms, and has occasionally reacted unpredictably toward random people. It is essential that she find a family who is 100% committed to positive-reinforcement training. Because I feel so strongly about her potential, Maya’s adoption fee of $400 will serve as pre-payment on six private training lessons with me in Marin or southwest Sonoma County.

Chrissy is a total sweetheart. She’s somewhat low-energy, and stays calm even with loud noises, new people, and lots of stimulation. Chrissy is a quick learner and eager to please. She’s quickly learned to sit, lay down, stay, stay back from open doors, get into her crate, and is learning how to walk on a leash well. She’s completely potty trained, and will go to a single spot in the yard if you direct her there.
Chrissy loves to be around people and will lay at her person’s feet, but didn’t make a sound when we tested out leaving her alone for an extended period of time. She likes to be around where the people are, but doesn’t demand a ton of attention, never seems to complain about being bored, and loves hugs/scratches/rubs.

Chrissy seems happiest spending time with the family and doing her training. She has had a great time with doggie visitors (from puppies to a large Husky), who she met politely and became comfortable around quickly. She loves going to the park for a walk and watching other people/dogs go by.

Chrissy is comfortable and happy to be around children. She met them politely, got back when they told her to (even a 3 yr. old), and mainly wanted to be around them. Chrissy could do very well in a variety of home environments. She’s mellow enough for an apartment, quiet enough for a condo, would love a big family home, or even a big piece of land to run around with some animal friends.

Chrissy is excited around cats, and if she will live with them her future family should plan on making a slow, patient, well-supervised introduction. The hound side of her loves small, furry creatures!

Callie is a happy, playful young dog, and would love a new family soon! She is a real sweetie.

May 25 Update! We have just discovered that Callie was released from the shelter pregnant. It will be 10-12 weeks before Callie will be available for adoption.

This beautiful boy was rescued two weeks before he was born! The Dog Shack rescue group pulled their mom from the shelter just at the last minute before being euthanized, and placed her with us. The puppies were born Thanksgiving morning and are healthy, loving, playful pups. They have been socialized with other dogs, cats, and children and have good temperaments.

Komet is the last puppy left. He is 7 months old and a real sweetheart. He loves to be with people and gets along well with other dogs. He is a little too interested in chasing foster home cats, so he would do better in a home without cats.

Komet is going to make someone a great dog. Will bark when someone comes in the yard and when the doorbell rings but then quickly becomes the welcoming committee. He deserves a wonderful home.

American Staffordshire Terrier

Karmin is oh-so-sweet and very affectionate. She is a petite dog- about 40lbs and the perfect sized cuddle partner. She was rescued from the pound in November where she ended up pregnant and stray, so our rescue scooped her up so she could whelp in the comfort of a foster home. She had 7 pups and has weened them successfully, so now Karmin is ready for her forever home. Karmin’s pups are up for adoption through the dog shack. You can see them here http://www.thedogshack.org/2010/03/3-bull-mastiffstaffordshire-terrier-mix-puppies/. She is well-mannered in the home and has a stable, well-balanced personality. She is loving, friendly and super cute! No cats or small animals, though, as Karmin thinks they are snacks!

Kelpie/Vizla Mix

YouTube Video of Sophie

Sophie is a lovable, happy dog who lost her home when her owners fell on hard times. She is a playful, sweet dog who is good with kids and other dogs. She is appx 18 months old, weighs 48lbs and could benefit from some training classes so she will bond quickly with her new family. Sophie knows to sit on command and is very responsive and sensitive to her people. She does jump up when excited, but this is being worked by her fosters as she is very energetic. She loves to be petted, cuddled and to give and receive kisses!

Below is a bio from Sophie’s foster mom:

With her amber eyes and her solid stance, we think Sophie is a mix between a sporting Hungarian Vizsla and an Australian Kelpie sheepdog. She’s under two years old and weighs a solid 48 lbs.

Sophie is quickly learning obedience: sit, down, stay, come, don’t jump, on your mat, don’t touch, and dinner down. To be her best, Sophie needs at least two to three miles of walking or
running everyday. She walks well on lead, trotting along at your side and looking up at you often. This girl is eager for leadership and structure in her life!

Sophie loves to meet and play with other dogs. She plays, wrestles, and runs hard. She’s very curious about cats and must be in a no-cat household.

Sophie responds well to both men and women. She is spayed and up-to-date with routine shots. Sophie’s house- and crate-trained and rides easily in a car. She does not guard her food and does give up her toys easily.

Sophie is an extremely friendly dog and will greet you with kisses and a wagging tail.

UPDATE on Sophie:
Sophie’s herding instincts shift into high gear when she is around moving
trucks/cars, cats, squirrels, and other small animals. She needs help in
redirecting her focus away from the “sheep” and back to her owner.

She has the cutest ‘tap-dance’ rountine she does for treats, and she always takes them softly. She is a bit hard of hearing and has some arthritis, but she has a lot of love and life left in her and would enjoy being your new companion.

Moira is house trained, well-mannered and is fine with other dogs when out on her walks. Moira was rescued from the shelter when she was dumped by her first owners to no fault of her own, and she would love a chance to spend her remaining years being your side.
